New Project: Bathroom Gut Job Part 3 Update - Beadboard + Paint

I am soooooo glad I switched gears and decided to do the walls first. Not only did it feel right, but I know how to do beadboard and I know how to paint…I was in need of a good confidence boost, this did the trick.

The original plan was to do floor-to-ceiling beadboard; however, I am a very visual person and once we got it in the room, both my husband and I agreed we should only do half the wall.

I got these beadboard sheets from Lowes and had them cut them in half for me. Since I am putting this in a bathroom, I didn’t want to use mdf for moisture issues. I looked into pvc beadboard as it’s meant for wet areas, but ultimately decided against it.

To secure the panels to the wall, I used a lot of liquid nails to prevent any warping and brad nails.

I finished it off with this chair rail molding. It has a ply cap so it fits perfectly on top of the beadboard. The sheets are pretty rough so I gave them a good sanding, then filled all the whole with wood filler and caulked the edges before priming.

Now to the really good stuff, paint! I started off with bulls eye 123 primer and once it dried, I lightly sanded it {always sand after priming!}, filled any imperfections I saw and primed any areas I missed.

***This paintbrush and paint roller are, without a doubt, the only ones I will ever choose to use for my painting projects. They have proven to be the best tools I could possibly find for achieving a flawless finish.***

I used Stainmaster in the color biscotti. This was my first time using this paint and I was very impressed. It was so smooth and went on nicely. I would definitely use it again.

I painted the walls and ceiling before installing the beadboard due to timing. Asher's room is next to the bathroom, and I work during his nap. I couldn't use the brad nailer while he was sleeping, so I painted the upper half and ceiling first. Then I installed the beadboard when Ron was available. Ideally, I would have done it the other way around, but things don’t always go as planned with kids, and that's fine!

What a difference beadboard and paint made has already made! Our space already feels 20 times more us and the look I am going for. But next week is where things are going to get really real! Stay tuned for all things shower and things really coming together.

with love, andi
