All the Secrets to Spring Floral Arrangements
/Over the past year, my love for real greenery and floral arrangements has grown. It took me realizing one thing to get past the "I stink at floral arrangements" phrase. THERE ARE NO RULES! And like most things in life, you get better the more you practice.
Floral arrangements were always something I would always admire in other people's homes, yet not a task that I perfect in my own. There's nothing quite like some fresh florals to make a house feel like home. I've tried learning the rules to get better at both and for some reason, it never came out how it was supposed to.
It finally hit me; I needed to stop following the rules and go with felt right. I was so much in my own brain about what it should be that I wasn't even following those guidelines to begin with. So then I just started buying some flowers, trimming the stems and sticking them in a vase with water.
There's so much more to floral arrangements than simply putting them in a vase. It's a process. A therapeutic process. One that anybody can do. So here's my secret...there isn't one! Let go of the rules and enjoy the process. And if you don't like it, guess what...you can take it all out and start over!
Now, even though there might not be these concrete rules to creating the perfect floral arrangement, there are some tips I've learned along the way.
Place a Smaller Bucket Inside a Larger Tin
A small bucket allows you to have more control while making it look like you have a bigger arrangement. I used to think this step was silly; an unnecessary extra step. I was wrong. This made the biggest difference! {You can also tape your base in a grid pattern to help hold smaller groups of stems}
Get More Than You Think You Need
It's always better to have more and not need it all than not have enough and it look bare, wouldn't you agree? I had some eucalyptus and baby's breath left over from this to be able to create a smaller arrangement for our kitchen island :) Trader Joe's is my go to for all my florals. If you have one close to you, I would go there!
Start with Your Main Florals First
I think that is pretty self explanatory ;). But really, you want to place your main florals first so you have more control where they go.
Place One at a Time
Remember how I said I would get some florals, trim the stems and stick in them in a vase as originally bunched? Yeah, don't do that. Take each individual stem and place it where you want to go. It's a messy process, but so worth it.
Enjoy the Process
Lastly, don't forget to enjoy the process. Don't think of it as a chore. Think of it as time to yourself creating something beautiful home.
And there you have it, a simple and beautiful floral arrangement! Now get to it :D
